Using Edcite to Make Interactive Science Quizzes: Extending Beyond the Multiple Choice Paper Exam
This tutorial will guide learners to create interactive science quizzes using the webbased program Edcite. Prior to the training session, trainees will need to have gone to Edcite.com and created a teacher account and create a class. Additionally, trainees will need to have their district approved science curriculum as well as a print-out of both Science and Language arts standards. :
Objectives
By the end of the training, trainees will be able to:
- Log-in and create at least one interactive web-based science exam using the web 2.0 tool, Edcite.com
- Using district approved science curriculum and state science standards, trainees will develop 2 different question types using Edcite.com
Step 1: Creating a Question
- Roll over the tab Questions, located in the green bar at the top and select Create New Question.

Step 2a: Selecting Different Types of Question
- You will see seven different categories of questions: PARCC, Smarter Balanced, Basic, Image, Math, Word, and Other. Within each category there is a variety of question types, these question types can be located on the left hand side on the pag
- A) Select the tab Smarter Balance, located at the top of the page.
- B) Click Select Text (ELA)
- C) Click Create Question

Step 2b: Creating a Text Based Question Using the Select Text Question Type.
- A) Select the second Layout option
- B) Insert directions of what you want students to highlight from the passage, top part.
- C) Insert a passage on the Prompt portion, bottom side.
- D) Select the correct answer that the students should be highlighting.

Step 3: Saving a Question
- A) Click Save question and make sure it has a title so it can be easily located later.
- B) Question can be located under the Question tab by clicking My Questions.

Step 4: Touch Image
- A) Create New Question, and click Image.
- B) Select the question type “Touch Image”
- C) Clic Create Quest

- Click “Select Image”
- Search an image that you want students to identify and label

- Under Touch Query post a question as to what part of the image you want students to identify. Repeat process for three different portions of the image.
- Click Outline Touch Area. Using the mouse, trace the part of the image you want students to identify. Repeat process for three different portions of the image.
- Give the question a name and then select save
- Question can be retrieved from the Question tab under “My Questions”

Step 5: Compiling an Exam
- A) Scroll over the tab entitled Questions and select My Questions
- B) Check the box of all exam questions you want to appear on the exam
- C) Click the orange button at the top that reads Assign
- D) Give the exam a name, due date, and click Save
- Click Confirm on the small box that appears in order to make the exam active

Step 6: Assigning Exam
- Select Assign at the top, orange button
- A) Check the box next to each student’s name that you want to administer the exam to
- B) Click Send to Selected Students
