A Teacher Focused Training for Explain Everything

Course Description: Explain Everything is a unique interactive screencasting whiteboard app that allows teachers and students to create presentations, or record screencasts to demonstrate a concept or illustrate their projects. Combining inking, images, text, and voice, Explain Everything offers a one-stop shop for student created work.

Learning Objective: By the end of this training you will be able to add photos to Explain Everythingcreate a short animation and record your voice to share your knowledge.

Before you begin: You will be training in the app Explain Everything. Before you start this course you will need to download a photo of rolling seas and a Spanish ship. Screenshots and a video demonstration are include to help you visualize the steps you will be taking.

STEP 1 ~ Setting up your storyboard

  1. Touch the Explain Everything app on the iPad
  2. Touch the “+” in the left corner of the app.
  3. Select a preset color scheme.

Your Explain Everything whiteboard will open for you to begin work.

STEP 2 ~ Insert your photo 1

  1. Touch the Explain Everything app on the iPad
  2. Touch the “+” in the left corner of the app.
  3. Select a preset color scheme.

STEP 3 ~ Insert your photo 2

  Add a second photo of a ship that will become your animated element:

  1. Touch the “+” in the left hand menu
  2. In that pop up menu, touch “Photo, Video or File.”
  3. Select the photo of the Spanish ship and it will place on your whiteboard.

STEP 4 ~ Clip and edit

Follow these simple steps to clip the background and resize your photo.

  1. Touch the “lasso” tool in the top right corner.
  2. Using your finger draw a tight outline all the way around the ship.
  3. Touch “Done” (It will show you your clipped photo.)

Your ship is now on the open seas ready to travel in animation.

STEP 5 ~ Create basic movement and record


You will want your ship to travel the rolling seas, you can move your ship forward through the waters, increasing its size as it moves toward you.  Since you will already be recording the movement, you can speak while moving the ship to enhance learning.  While recording your ship movement, briefly explain how the Spanish traveled by ship to the New World and eventually established Missions throughout California.
  
 To record and add movement:
  1. At the bottom of the screen, touch the red “record” button.
  2. Using your finger, slowly move the ship through the waters.
  3. Speak clearly and briefly explain how the Spanish traveled to North America in the 1500’s.

When are done speaking and moving your ship, touch the “pause” button.

STEP 6 ~ Saving your project

  1. At the bottom of your screen, touch the white box with the down arrow to save your project on your device.
  2. Touch the blue "Yes" box when it asks you if you want to save your project.
  3. Type in the name of your project.
  4. Touch “Save."
